tesa 8854 vs 8858: Choosing the Right Non-Woven Grade for Foam Bonding

Compare tesa 8854 and 8858 non-woven double-sided tape by adhesive type, thickness, and suitability for foam-to-metal and other industrial bonding applications.

Both are non-woven, but the adhesive system differs

tesa 8854 and tesa 8858 both use a non-woven carrier, but 8854 uses a modified acrylic adhesive optimized for foam-to-metal bonding, while 8858 uses a different acrylic formulation for general-purpose double-sided bonding.

The adhesive coat weight and total thickness also differ. Confirm the manufacturer data sheet for both models before substituting one for the other in a production specification.

Match the tape to the foam and metal

For foam-to-metal bonding, 8854 is the specified grade in many drawings because of its proven adhesion to a range of foam grades and metal finishes. 8858 may suit lighter-duty applications or different substrate combinations.

Run a sample trial with the actual foam and metal. Record the peel adhesion after 20 minutes, 24 hours, and 72 hours. The initial tack and the cured adhesion can tell different stories.

Check the liner and converting format

Confirm the liner type and release values. A heavier release liner can slow production if the line depends on fast liner removal. Both models are available in rolls, sheets, and die-cut formats.
